I found this pair of nightstands for FREE… but once I got them home, I realized they were a mix of particle board, MDF, and some real wood—and they were in rough shape. This was not a quick flip. These nightstands had dents, dings, a broken drawer, and significant MDF damage with bubbling and swelling. Instead of walking away, I took them on as a challenge to show that MDF and particle board furniture is actually worth refinishing. To repair the damage, I dug out all the compromised MDF and rebuilt those areas using Bondo to create a solid surface again. I used spot putty to fill smaller imperfections, then sealed everything with an oil-based spray primer to lock down the repairs and prevent future issues. From there, I followed my standard prep and priming process before applying a custom taupe paint finish and a durable topcoat. To finish the look, I added new weathered brass knobs, giving these nightstands a clean, updated style that works in a variety of spaces.
