These nightstands are proof that a furniture makeover doesn’t have to be complicated to make a big impact. I took this dated pair and gave them a high-end, neutral finish using a simple 8-step refinishing process that beginners can absolutely tackle. The curves were already doing most of the heavy lifting. They just needed some updating. I started with a thorough cleaning, repaired the dings and imperfections with glazing and spot putty, sanded everything smooth, primed, painted, protected the finish with topcoat, and finished them off with hardware. For the color, I used Washed Taupe by Legacy Paints, a warm neutral that completely changed the look of these pieces without fighting their beautiful shape. Neutral furniture continues to be incredibly versatile for resale because buyers can easily picture it working in their own homes. And this pair didn’t last long. They sold for $650 in one day.
