This 90’s honey-colored dining table had that unmistakable yellow/orange tone we all remember. I’m sure many of you owned a table just like this, I know I had a round one! Years of family dinners and kids doing homework on this table it was worn. It was a family staple, but was ready to be refinished to match the new look of the remodeled kitchen. The owners of this table have a beautiful live edge solid slab walnut counter top that was the inspiration behind the color change. I started by fully stripping the old finish to get back to raw wood. Going through chemical stripper, carbide scraper, sanding nets in 80 and 120, then sanding paper in 120 and 150 grits. After sanding everything smooth, I applied a pre-stain conditioner to help control absorption and prevent blotchiness. From there, I built depth and richness with three layers of stain, carefully adjusting the tone until the color was close to what the clients wanted. To protect it for real-life use, I sealed it with multiple layers of durable topcoat, sanding lightly between coats to achieve a smooth, furniture-grade finish.
