Extreme Transformation of an old Bassett Spanish Revival Set I found these hidden gems on Facebook Marketplace for just $50 – yes, the entire set for $50! The previous owners had inherited them with their home and used them for a while before deciding it was time for a new chapter. I was so lucky to stumble upon them! What caught my eye were the beautifully molded details on the doors and drawers, paired with sleek, clean lines. I immediately saw their potential to become something really special. I was also happy to discover they are made by Bassett. Here’s how the transformation came together: • Out with the old: I started by removing the outdated brass hardware and plating, which didn’t align with my design vision. • Structural updates: After a deep cleaning, I flipped each piece over to prepare for new legs. This step required careful custom fitting to work around the original supports, including precise cuts, notches, and recessed T-nuts using a Forstner bit to ensure the legs would sit perfectly flush. I also added a long support board along the back of the dresser to allow installation of a center support leg. • Finishing touches: Once the structural adjustments were complete, I sanded every surface, gave it a second good cleaning, applied primer, paint, and a durable topcoat, sanding between each layer for a flawless finish. With the new legs and updated hardware installed, this set has been completely reimagined, ready to make a bold statement in its next home.
