I just refinished a stunning set of oversized half-moon nightstands, selected from my inventory and fully customized for a client. These pieces already had great shape and presence, but the original black finish had heavy wood grain that needed refinement to achieve a more elevated, modern look. I started by thoroughly cleaning the surfaces, followed by scuff sanding and detailed repairs where needed. Because the grain was especially pronounced on the tops, I filled the grain to create a smoother, more refined finish. Once everything was properly prepped, the nightstands went into the spray tent for primer, Bohld Black paint by Farmhouse Evolution, and a durable topcoat to ensure longevity and create a beautiful matte finish. The final touch was installing new hardware provided by the client, which completely elevated the design and gave these nightstands a fresh, cohesive look. The result is a dramatic, high-end refresh that highlights the unique half-moon shape while delivering a sleek, modern aesthetic. These nightstands are a great example of how thoughtful prep, grain filling, and professional finishing techniques can completely transform furniture — even when working with an existing dark finish.
