Our punch press had a small gap between the machine and the control panel. Whenever a part slipped from the operator's hand, it could fall all the way to the floor. That meant stopping the process, bending down to retrieve it, and increasing the chance of damaging the part. The solution was surprisingly simple. We installed a small guard that bridges the gap, so dropped parts are caught within easy reach of the operator. Lean isn't always about complicated projects.
