Hey folks, this is about as small as an improvement gets. In our packaging materials area, specialty materials sometimes arrive wrapped in tape, twine or other packaging that needs to be cut open. If an operator didn't already have a knife nearby, they had to search for one or struggle with the packaging. One of our operators finally got tired of it. He mounted a utility knife directly at the point of use and added a crumb trail showing where replacement blades are stocked. Now the tool is exactly where it's needed, whenever it's needed. It's a tiny improvement, but that's the point. When something repeatedly makes your job harder, don't keep putting up with it. Fix it. 👉 Subscribe for more practical lean improvements and real-world manufacturing ideas. Learn more about how we apply lean thinking at dgshsourcing.com. [0452]
