Hey folks, here's a great example of why lean isn't about eliminating every type of waste equally. Every Springfree trampoline net we manufacture is fully inspected before it leaves our factory. Our original process used four operators, but one person had additional inspection work checking the zipper and entrance. The other operators regularly found themselves waiting for that task to be completed. We redesigned the process to use three operators instead. Although the remaining operators walk a little farther, they remain productive throughout the inspection, and the overall process takes the same amount of time. Lean is often about making better trade-offs.
