Hey folks, here's an improvement that ended up needing another improvement. At our laser engraving station, a large jig took up the normal mouse area. Our operator was actually using his pants as a mouse pad, so our fabrication team added a simple bolt-on extension to give the mouse a proper home. Problem solved. Or so we thought. When we moved the engraving station, the new extension stuck out and made the machine harder to manoeuvre without hitting nearby equipment. So we improved the improvement. Using some leftover material, we made the extension fold down. Now the operator has the workspace when he needs it and a compact machine when it's time to move. That's continuous improvement. The first solution doesn't have to be the final solution. 👉 Subscribe for more practical lean improvements and real-world manufacturing ideas.
