The road into our homestead is steep, remote, and one of the hardest things to keep open through the winter. Up until now, we’ve been relying on an ATV and plow—but in deep snow, drifting, and extreme cold, it’s a constant fight and not a long-term solution. We needed something more capable and ideally, something that could serve multiple roles beyond just plowing. That’s what led us to this 1970s Snow Trac. It’s old, worn, and far from perfect—but machines like this were built for exactly these conditions. If it works, this isn’t just a “cool old machine”—it could solve one of the biggest ongoing problems on our homestead: consistent winter access. And beyond that, it could open up new possibilities—winter hunting, ice fishing, maintaining horse trails, hauling supplies through deep powder, and reaching parts of the backcountry that are currently difficult or impossible to access. We’re putting it to the test to see if this old snowcat can earn its place out here! Til next time, — Dennis, Amy & Lena End Music By: @HawkenHorse, who wrote us "Holdfast".
