Its been a long cold winter, but spring is coming quick- and with her break up. The mighty Copper River is starting to come alive again and our fish wheel sits on its banks. The wheel sits a good distance away, but we didnt want to take any chances with it being swept down river. The footing and hard crust snow wasnt ideal for the horses, so we decided to take the snowcat down to check on it. It was the old machine's first long trip, and Dennis did a little work to it and installed a small woodstove in it to keep us nice and warm when we went down. We packed our gear and headed out! Dinner over the fire is our favorite way to end the day, especially now that we are getting so much beautiful sun. Salmon patties + some of our wild foraged blueberry jam was for dinner, with dessert being some fire cooked brown butter sea salt chocolate chip cookies (a favorite sourdough discard recipe!). We cant wait to take you all on our adventures this season, and are so thankful to all the folks who follow the homestead.
