I transformed these dated nightstands into sleek, modern pieces with a timeless design and enhanced functionality. I discovered these gems on Facebook Marketplace for just $50 and acted quickly to bring them home. What initially caught my eye was their three-drawer design and tall base—classic features with so much potential. With a few updates, I knew they could become something truly special. The process began by removing the outdated hardware, which didn’t suit my style. I thoroughly cleaned the nightstands, trimmed the bases for a more refined look, filled the original hardware holes, and prepped them for primer. During priming, the nail holes from the trim application became visible, so I filled them with wood filler to ensure a smooth finish. However, after applying the first coat of paint, I encountered the dreaded bleed-through—tannins had risen to the surface, something I hadn’t anticipated with this piece. To address this, I applied an oil-based primer over all surfaces, effectively sealing in the tannins. Since the primer required overnight drying, I allowed ample time before continuing the process. The following day, I completed the paint layers and applied a durable topcoat. I then lined the drawers for a polished interior and installed beautiful new hardware to complete the transformation.
