Getting ready for the Vintage Computing Festival Switzerland 2025 at the ENTER Museum in Derendingen (November 8–9), I wanted something practical to keep my retro systems running smoothly during the event. Alongside my Windows NT 3.1 machine and the Texas Instruments TravelMate 5200 running Windows 95, I brought an old Synology DiskStation DS209 back to life — complete with a single SATA drive and DSM 4.2, freshly downloaded from archive.org. Turns out, installing and setting up a 2008 NAS on modern macOS takes a bit of creativity — and Crossover to the rescue! And yes, even Windows 95 can connect to it… once you install the “Active Directory Services” update. Will it all work together at the festival?
