Thanks to PCBWay: https://pcbway.com/g/ynWgss How do you add Ethernet to a Macintosh with no expansion slot? Sonic Systems answered that question with the microSCSI Ethernet adapter: an external box that turns the Mac’s SCSI bus into a 10-megabit network interface. In this video, we connect one to a Macintosh Classic II and explore why Ethernet over SCSI was a practical solution for compact Macs and PowerBooks in the early 1990s. It all seemed to work just fine, except that MacTCPPing produced some unreliable results and presumably packet loss. Big time Thanks go to Peter from Germany for donating lots of Vintage Apple network gear 🙏 In this episode: 00:00 Intro 00:26 What Was The Sonic micro SCSI Ethernet Adapter? 01:45 How To Connect The Sonic micro SCSI Ethernet Adapter? 04:00 How To Install Sonic EtherLAN Drivers On The Macintosh 04:27 MacTCP Connection Setup 05:06 Troubleshooting ICMP - Why MacTCP Exposes Packet Loss 08:05 Conclusion 🔔 Subscribe for more retro hardware adventures!
