When Mac OS X 10.0 arrived, it introduced Aqua, Quartz, and the XNU-based kernel built on top of Darwin. But for many users, it still felt unfinished. In this episode, we step into Mac OS X 10.1, the release that transformed OS X into a usable daily system and set the stage for the long goodbye to Mac OS 9. I walk through the 10.1 upgrade process, deal with archived patch sequences and installer errors on my way up to 10.1.5. As noted in the previous episode, Mac OS X 10.0 wasn't really compatible to many applications, as many of the applications that followed after the first year of release baselined on Mac OS X 10.1.x. Mac OS X 10.1 was to many, what 10.0 should have been. Semingly fast and stable.
