In the late 1960s the Soviet Navy was commissioning a series of very large cruisers with flight decks. Although intended for helicopters, Admiral Gorshkov was persuaded to also acquire a novel fixed wing aircraft based on Yakovlev's promising Yak-36 Freehand. Yak's Forger is often dismissed as a poor copy of a Harrier, but it was in fact a clean sheet design full of novel features. This video explores its characteristics and performance.
