Curated by: Not A Pound For Air To Ground (219 videos)
In 1969, as the Ho Chi Minh Trail became one of the most heavily defended logistics networks in the world, the U.S. Marine Corps introduced a radical solution: fast jet forward air controllers flying TA-4F Skyhawks. Operating at treetop height over Laos, the “Playboys” directed air strikes, hunted convoys, and suppressed anti-aircraft guns in some of the most dangerous airspace of the Vietnam War. Their speed, coordination, and innovative tactics transformed close air support and helped shape modern FAC(A) doctrine. Despite intense fire and frequent rescues behind enemy lines, the unit maintained extraordinary readiness and completed nearly 3,000 sorties before the program ended in 1971.
