Curated by: Not A Pound For Air To Ground (219 videos)
In the mid-1960s, the U.S. Army experimented with an unusual idea. They turned their new CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter into a heavily armed gunship. Known as the ACH-47A “Guns-A-Go-Go,” the aircraft combined extreme firepower with the endurance and survivability of a heavy-lift helicopter. This video traces its development, combat service in Vietnam, and the reasons the programme was ultimately abandoned. Note that this video is less detailed than my usual fare as it was first published as an end of year extra.
