In 1960 a Soviet delegation under the leadership of Aleksander Yakovlev visited the Farnborough airshow. There they saw, for the first time, a working vertical takeoff jet aircraft. On his return, Yakovlev set about making the Soviet equivalent. This is the story of the Freehand, the father of the famous Forger.
