Polikarpov's I-15 didn't have an easy gestation, given that it's creator designed it from his cell in an NKVD Gulag. It then survived repeated attempts by the VVS to kill it off because of its novel gull wings. But despite its troubled birth, when the Spanish Civil War broke out, it was Polikarpov's I-15 that was sent to defend the International Revolution. This is its story.
