Currently Playing: Westland Wyvern: Britain’s Turboprop Monster Goes to War

The Westland Wyvern was conceived during the Second World War as a uniquely large and powerful carrier fighter for use in the Pacific. But the war ended and a combination of tight budgets and challenging engine development delayed it until the early 1950s. This is the story of a unique and interesting carrier fighter, with particular focus on its combat service in the Suez Crisis of 1956.
