A book that isn't a comic but still full of pictures- my kind of book! I've been a long time lurker of Plaid Stallions, the guys who put this book together. Like a lot of you out there probably, many a shopping trip was spent perusing the toy aisle prior to heading home. If we were lucky, maybe we actually got something. Usually we didn't- it always depended on who we were shopping with. Grandparents were the easiest marks for convincing we really needed any of the shoddily made toys that graced the supermarkets and convenience stores of our youths, a rule that seems to have been set in place by generations prior to mine as well (and continues to this day judging by my own kids desire to get groceries with their grandparents on both sides of the Pacific). This book is a seriously visual treat, especially if you were of the age to see a lot of this stuff growing up. The toys contained within weren't anything that you'd put on a holiday shopping list, or save up for over the course of weeks. It was glorified eye candy and impulse purchases. That's what makes this book especially cool- all the bright and garish packaging, often which had little to do with the actual toys, which usually came out looking like a few corners had been cut in their production. Didn't matter though- you had fun with them regardless. Maybe it's just me getting older and reminiscing. Whatever. Some of this stuff was certainly cool then, and judging by the fact my son keeps stealing this book off the shelf quite regularly through the years, there's still a bit of coolness to them now. If you want to flip through it yourself I'd suggest the kindle version as the print copies are stupidly expensive these days.
