Another fun, odd, fantasy obscurity for your Friday perusal! Where did I find this book? I... don't know! It's been on my shelf for a few years now. Perhaps it's always been there and I just never realized it? Brought to us by Damon Gentry and Aaron Conley, it's a fun black and white romp through a visually interesting fantasy landscape where lots of stuff happens to our hapless hero- often with him inflicting radical violence on the perpetrators. Is it amazingly profound? Not particularly. Is it a lot of fun? Most assuredly. The early parts of the story remind me of Moebius' Arzarch strips. Not a lot of talking, and the reader is left to interpret why certain things happen from panel to panel. Speaking of panels, that's my one big complaint with this book- perhaps due to the size (it's a bit smaller than a typical American comic), some of the panels can be quite dense and confusing. I read a lot of comics from around the world. Some amazingly drawn and some so amateurish I could probably give the author some stiff competition. Even I had to look a bit more carefully at what was occurring in some shots. On the flipside of that, there is tons of meticulous detail piled into the panel work that it's quite astounding. I've heard the second edition (this is the first) is supposed to have some color stories included in it as well. Can anyone confirm?
