Picking up the Wednesday Comics recently reminded me of this other hefty, oddly- sized tome I'm always afraid to open. Vampire Hunter D was an eye- opener for me. I'd never seen a feature- length movie of its kind before. I must have first stumbled upon it in the early 90s. I can remember getting a set of postcards from somewhere, possible Streamline themselves, for their early movie releases, with a cool one for D, along with others like Lensman and Fist of the North Star. Where did those come from? So this book is mostly book covers and the spot illustrations that Amano did for the novel series. It's a treat in that there's a large variety of types of illustrations here, from quick sketches, black and white panel work, to full blown painted pieces. There's no denying Amano is a talented artist either! I love that this book was blown up in size to such large proportions, as it really lets you take in the quality of it! I've read a large chunk of the books years ago, and quite enjoyed them. Sadly they got a bit same- y and I only remember bits and pieces of them these days. Time for a reread I guess, isn't it? Of course, with Bloodlust getting a Blu ray release...
