Some old school manga goodness on my first official day of vacation! While I'm not familiar with this specific book, I am quite familiar with Ishinomori's works. Dude was crazy influential on the scene in Japan in the 70s, being the brain behind a lot of major properties, some of which are still around today. Kamen Rider, anyone? Or this book, the great granddaddy of the entire Super Sentai/ Power Rangers franchise? It all seems so quaint and simple compared to the crazy convoluted mess that some seasons devolve into. The last season I can really remember watching with my kids was Gokaiger... which was a few years ago. The manga is pretty straightforward and the action easy to follow. There were a few transitions that left me wondering if I missed a spot, but overall the stories flow pretty easily. This isn't high end literature after all, and one of the stories was serialized in an elementary- school aged magazine. So who's this intended for? Old fossils like me that dig old comics? People like my son who are really into tokusatsu and its origins? I'm not exactly sure... but I do appreciate that Seven Seas made this available in English! It's definitely an interesting bit of pop culture history. Check it out for yourself here! Also of interest is the fact that the original Kamen Rider manga is available for preorder as well. https://amzn.to/3fxRqXv
