Taking a look at a recent release from Magnetic Press, the book in question being False Guard by Merwan. A fun fantasy infused story of martial arts, politics, and brotherhood, this hits a lot of the right notes for me. It's obvious that Merwan has done some training and tried to ground his fighting style in somewhat realistic techniques. No ninja tricks, nen, ki, alchemy, or magic. Just fighters and their bodies. What was also cool was that despite all the fighting and how central it is to the story, it's not the only thing going on with the story. I won't spoil it though, that's for you to read and find out! My only real complaint is it wasn't actually a hardcover. I was thinking it would be a hardcover. At least it still has those funky rounded edges that most of Magnetic Press' larger books have!
