You guys mentioning the Giant Snave earlier got me thinking about Nemesis... So I figured it was time to bust out the Deviant Edition. This book collects the first two books (parts) of the overarching story of Nemesis and Credo, the alien rebellion fighting against the Termite Empire of Terra. What makes it different though is it was all colored by the artist, Kevin O' Neil, in order to better prep it for consumption in the American comic market of the 80s- heaven forbid Yanks read books in black and white! Some panels were also readjusted to accommodate the size of American floppies (as 2000AD had much larger page at the time of Nemesis' publication). Nemesis in its original run was an absolute treat- the Termite Empire, its Terminators and their holy crusades across the stars to purge the universe of filthy aliens, all the Latin naming conventions of the Empire's branches... it becomes quite apparent that the world building Pat Mills was putting into the book would later have a major impact on what would become the world of 40k. The art, story, and themes are SERIOUSLY grimdark. Seeing it in bright and vibrant colors is a bit of an adjustment however. It's not bad- it's just different. Would I recommend this over the Complete Editions? Probably not- the black and white early chapters just feel better that way. It adds to the grim darkness of the whole story. However when I glance at Amazon and see what sort of stupid ridiculous prices people are asking for those books... well, this might be a safer, saner, and more reasonable approach to checking out the story. It's a shame they didn't get into the Bryan Talbot strips or when the ABC Warriors show up. Would've been interesting to see them in this color palette. As Torquemada always says- Be pure. Be vigilant. BEHAVE!
