There is a lot of unrest in the world that those living in Ohio can read about in the local papers. Andrew Jackson and the governor of South Carolina are not getting along after South Carolina decided not to honor the tariffs the government was imposing. Joseph, on Christmas Day, receives a revelation that these issues will eventually lead to a Civil War in the United States that will begin in South Carolina, probably including the slavery question. The American Civil War did not begin until several years after Joseph died and the Saints had left the United States to settle in the Rockies.
