An Amateur Historian who found the time to read the Joseph Smith Papers fills in the gaps, tells the rest of the story, and hopefully gives some understanding to Latter-day Saint history and early American life.

In this part of Filling in the History we get the written accounts of the death of Joseph Smith and Hyrum Smith in Carthage jail written by John Taylor and Willard Richards, who were in the room. John Taylor is shot multiple times and Willard Richard saves his life, but Joseph and Hyrum are shot to death by a mob in the summer of 1844. No notes, no introductions, just the story from those who were there as we conclude the Joseph Smith Papers and share the final moments of the life of Joseph Smith.
