After being in State custody for weeks, Joseph and his friends are moved to Liberty Jail to stay for months before they escape. During this time we get a series of letters and correspondence that fill in their experience and fill in our knowledge of what they went through. A letter is sent on the 20th of March 1839 where we get the first portion of section 121 of the Doctrine and Covenants as we have it today which is a cry to God for help after some of the most atrocious events and crimes have been committed against the Church.
