Smoking an Echo KS Cigarette from Japan (Review), which contain 15mg of Tar and 1.1mg of Nicotine, and were first introduced in August of 2024, making them a recent addition to Japan Tobacco's lineup, however, this brand has been around for much longer than that. Echo is a Japanese brand of cigarettes that was first introduced in 1968 by JT, then a government monopoly, and from the start, they were a budget brand that utilized a specific tax bracket; one that designated products made with "lower quality tobacco" to be ones that were taxed at a lower rate. This worked, and for many years, the nameplate remained as a cheap option for people who wanted precisely that. However, in the late 2010's, the aforementioned tax bracket was phased out, and so JT made the choice to discontinue them in 2019, and to rebrand them into filtered cigars. This plan, frankly put, didn't work, and so after five years, in 2024, they were discontinued and the product this video is about was introduced.
