Mevius is a Japanese brand of (generally) more mild-than-not cigarettes that was first introduced in 1977 by Japan Tobacco as Mild Seven, a semi-derivative brand of Seven Stars, as the name would imply. Over the years, the nameplate grew exponentially, eventually becoming JT's most popular brand, but in 2013, due to oncoming packaging and naming regulations in some countries, the name was changed to Mevius to avoid legal issues. Today, this nameplate is quite popular, and is without a doubt one of the most popular brands in Japan today, and is supposedly quite popular outside of its home market as well.
