While exploring Clifton Beach in Karachi, Pakistan, I met Neelam Jaan from Pakistan's transgender community. Many people in South Asia believe that blessings from members of the hijra community can bring good fortune, and it's common for people to give them money in return. I stopped to have a chat and was surprised by how warm, kind, and welcoming she was. Encounters like this are why I love traveling. They show a side of Pakistan that most people never get to see.
