Hidden on the outskirts of Karachi lies the Manghopir Shrine, one of Pakistan's oldest and most mysterious Sufi shrines. For centuries, pilgrims have travelled here seeking blessings, bathing in its natural sulphur hot springs, and visiting the shrine of the revered saint Pir Mangho. But what makes this place truly extraordinary is something almost impossible to believe until you see it for yourself: more than 200 sacred crocodiles living inside the shrine complex. This wasn't always a place visitors felt safe exploring. Around a decade ago, the surrounding area became a Taliban stronghold, forcing security forces into a years-long operation to reclaim it. Even today, locals still warn outsiders about visiting, and security raids have continued in the area in recent years. In this video, I travel into Manghopir to uncover the truth for myself. I explore the famous crocodile pond, discover the shrine's warm natural springs that many believe have healing properties, learn the centuries-old legends surrounding Pir Mangho, and see why thousands of devotees continue to visit despite the area's troubled recent history. Manghopir is believed to date back hundreds of years, with traditions linking the shrine to Pir Mangho, a revered Sufi saint who is said to have brought crocodile eggs here. Whether you believe the legends or not, the crocodiles have become inseparable from the shrine's identity and are cared for by its custodians, with visitors donating meat to feed them as part of the tradition. Beyond the crocodiles, this is an important place of worship where people come to pray, seek blessings, and reflect. At the same time, many have been targeted by extremist groups, including the Taliban, who oppose the veneration of saints and visits to shrines.
