As the threat from US bombers escalated, the Soviet Union sought to develop integrated systems of radars, computers and supersonic interceptors. Having scored smash hits with their MiG-15 and MiG-17 day fighters, Mikoyan and Gurevich were drafted in to similarly change the interceptor game. This would prove much harder than either had anticipated. In this video, I cover their first attempts: the I-3 and I-7. Sources - there are not many books in English on these aircraft so my main sources were: "Soviet Heavy Interceptors" by Yefim Gordon, which although a little haphazard is full of interesting facts... that do need checking as some are a little wayward! "Soviet/Russian Aircraft Weapons Since World War 2", also by Yefim Gordon. Sadly out of print, this is a great starting point for research on all types of Soviet aircraft weapons
