The Pintail was the first entirely new aircraft that Fairey made after the First World War. Although it looks pretty conventional, it was in fact quite an innovative aircraft. Commissioned by a conservative RAF as the land-based Fawn, however, it irked Charles Fairey so much that he decided to show the establishment what a real high-performance aircraft look like. The result, his Fox, sparked a revolution in British aircraft design. For this reason, the Pintail and the Fawn are in some ways amongst the more important Interwar aircraft.
