In this The Last Caretaker new patch video, the moment I have been waiting for finally happens: the transfer gate at Lazarus opens. The new quest begins with Project Crossing and the sealed structure on top of Lazarus. To activate the gate, we need to reproduce a Continuity Token, install it, and provide a massive amount of power. The gate asks for an absurd amount of electricity, so I end up draining Lazarus, pulling power from my ship, adding more generation, and rebuilding parts of my old power network just to make the system respond. Once the token is installed and the destination is found, the gate finally activates. And on the other side is something completely different. We arrive in a frozen region more than 100 kilometers away from Lazarus. The temperature immediately starts damaging the caretaker, movement becomes slower, and the first priority becomes survival. This introduces a completely new resource chain involving methane, steam, heat, and cold management. The new area has methane extractors beneath the ice, boilers that turn methane and fresh water into steam, and heaters that use that steam to create warm zones. The heater range is surprisingly small, which means proper infrastructure and careful placement are going to matter a lot in this region. I also test how the transfer gate works from both sides. The Lazarus side requires a large amount of power, while the frozen side behaves differently, meaning we can return without completely rebuilding the same power system there. That changes how important the new base becomes and gives us more freedom to experiment. This episode also includes plenty of first-day patch chaos: broken old cables, changed power behavior, massive energy requirements, frozen machinery, strange eel spawns through the ice, methane storage tests, water purification, new heaters, and figuring out what works while everything around me is trying to freeze me to death. The next major objective is North Bastion, the large settlement visible in the distance. But before going there, I want to turn this frozen outpost into a proper functioning base with reliable heat, power, methane, water, and a safe way back through the transfer gate. It feels very good to be back.
