In this The Last Caretaker North Bastion episode, I finally push deeper into the frozen settlement—and immediately start doing everything in the wrong order. We continue exploring the massive interior of North Bastion while trying to survive the cold with portable steam heaters, limited ammunition, batteries, emergency supplies, and whatever resources I can find along the way. The deeper we go, the more complicated the settlement becomes. There are powered doors, separate pipe networks, steam valves, damaged infrastructure, methane systems, water purification equipment, enemies, hidden corridors, vertical routes, and multiple areas that clearly belong to different stages of the questline. I also discover that some of the internal steam and pipe systems appear to behave strangely. Different floors seem to act like separate networks, and certain connections work only from specific locations. After a lot of testing, reconnecting, experimenting, and questioning my own intelligence, it becomes clear that some parts of the infrastructure may not be behaving consistently. Then I do what I usually do: ignore conventional progression. Instead of finding the laboratory like the quest tells me to, I climb, jump, explore alternate routes, and somehow reach areas I clearly was not supposed to enter yet. I even find a later quest item before completing the quest that should lead me there. Apparently the correct order is: Find the laboratory. Continue the story. Reach the later area. My order was: Reach the later area. Find the quest item. Realize I skipped the laboratory. Go back. North Bastion is also much larger than I expected. There are entire sections, lower levels, upper areas, powered rooms, hostile zones, and routes that keep branching into even more places. This is not a small location that you simply clear in one visit. Eventually, I accept the painful truth: instead of constantly improvising with batteries and temporary solutions, I need to bring a proper power line into the settlement and activate its systems correctly. So next episode, North Bastion gets electricity. Then we can finally explore the place properly, activate the important doors and infrastructure, and—hopefully—actually find the laboratory before accidentally finishing another future quest first.
