In this The Last Caretaker New Horizons update video, I go over most of the major things added or changed in the patch and talk about how they affect the game, the ship, resource management, power generation, exploration, and future progression. The first big topic is power. Since the weather update and this patch came together, wind turbines have become much more useful than solar panels. Storms can now generate a huge amount of power, and with the new Veils needing a lot of electricity, stronger power systems and bigger battery banks matter more than ever. I also talk about the Recovery Grinder and why it makes more sense now that the Eden platform and heavier resource demands exist. The Recovery Grinder lets you recycle materials into other resources, and when combined with carbon dioxide, carbon fiber, plastic, and oil loops, it can help turn the ship into a small mobile factory. It still needs balancing, but the idea behind it is very useful. The new fruit trees and gardens are also part of the patch, including pears, birch trees, and other trees that players have mentioned. The garden system looks good and adds new late-game farming ideas, but right now it still feels unfinished and buggy, especially when placed on the ship. The Grid Scan 2000 is another new tool that helps you see your ship or base connections, power levels, storage levels, sockets, grids, and broken systems. It is not always useful for simple builds, but for larger setups, Lazarus, Exodus, socket systems, and complicated ships, it can become a very helpful management tool. The cassette player might be one of the best quality-of-life additions in the patch. Being able to play music, carry the boombox around, and listen while exploring gives the game more personality and makes long trips feel much better. I also talk about the Veils, which are one of the strongest additions in New Horizons. They can gather oil from the ocean, but they consume a lot of electricity and still need better controls or balancing. The Eden platform also appears in this patch as the first major structure system, but right now it feels incomplete and probably needs a future quest or update to reveal its real purpose. The patch also adds statues, the token quest, and the Rhino tool, which works like an AOE scrapper. Overall, this update adds a lot of new systems, but many of them need feedback, balancing, and polishing before release.
