Despite recording the original version of the 1964 classic, Go Now, Bessie Banks' career was a series of quality recordings that never seemed to gain much commercial success throughout the 1960's. One last recording deal for Banks was her inclusion in a two-for recording deal at Stax in 1974 along with Brook Benton put together by the veteran New York based producer, Clyde Otis. Banks cut the masterful, Try To Leave Me If You Can(I Bet You Can't Do It), a song co-written by her fiance, Herman Kelly, which was released on the Volt subsidiary label in November of 1974. Since the company was in financial freefall at that time, the single went nowhere without any promotional money to push it. What a shame because it is truly one of the classics of southern soul....and very few got to hear it!
