Margie Hendrix had a classic blues voice and a marvelous delivery yet, her solo career never really got off the ground due to extensive drug use. Hendrix had been a member of Ray Charles' backing group, the Raelettes in the late 1950's and into the early 1960's. Her relationship with Charles led to giving birth to his son in 1959 but by 1964 Charles fired her from the Raelettes for her repeated heroin use and heavy drinking. She was able to secure a solo contract first with Mercury and then with Sound Stage 7 through the remainder of the 1960's but commercial success eluded her. This 2 sided classic released on Sound Stage 7 in 1969, features Margie at her wailing best. The A-side is, Somebody's Gonna Plow Your Field, while the flip side is the classic, (I've Got)Mama's Recipe. Sadly, Hendrix passed away in 1973 from a heroin overdose.
