One of the best of the slippin' around genre of southern soul in the early 1970's, William Bells', Lovin' On Borrowed Time, has a softer, melancholy vibe going for it in Bell's wonderful vocal delivery of the song. Released in 1973 on Stax, it remains one of my personal favorites from their entire 1970's catalogue.
