Alton, Illinois native, LutherIngram, made his way to New York in the early 1960's in hopes of landing a recording contract. He ended up doing background vocals and writing songs for other artists while his solo career aspirations lay dormant. In 1968, he signed a recording contract with Koko in Memphis, which had a distribution deal with Stax. He released two singles that didn't do a whole lot but his third release was, Aint That Loving You(For More Reasons Than One). The song had been recorded on Johnnie Taylor three years earlier but Luther's rendition hit the airways and peaked at #6 on the Cash Box chart, week ending 7/4/70. It was the break he needed and he would go on to record a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970's.
