St.Louis native, Ann Peebles, was a gospel singer fronting her family's gospel group while still a teenager. In 1968, while passing through Memphis, she was asked to sing with Gene Miller's band at the Club Rosewood, where she performed a cover version of Jimmy Hughes', Steal Away. Miller recommended that she audition for Willie Mitchell and she was immediately signed to a recording contract at Hi Records in late 1968. Peebles' third single release on Hi was in early 1970 recording her cover version of Little Johnny Taylor's, Part Time Love. The B-side to that 1970 release was, I Still Love You, written by Willie Mitchell and this brilliant recording remains one of my favorite Ann Peebles songs.
