Currently Playing: Sam Shamoun SCHOOLS Unitarian Trying To Prove Jesus Was Created

In this video Sam Shamoun debates a Unitarian in a live debate hosted by Brian Davila, and it opens with the claim that if Jesus was made or created, the Trinity falls apart. Sam agrees that Jesus can’t be God if he was created out of nothing, and the debate centers on Hebrews 3:2, “faithful to him who made him.” The Unitarian says the verse stands on its own, but Sam answers that the context of Hebrews 1 through 3 shows the word “made” means Jesus was appointed as apostle and high priest after taking on flesh and blood, and that the same Greek word can mean making someone a judge or a ruler without creating them. Sam then points to Hebrews 1:2 and 1:10-12, where the Son is the one through whom the ages were made and is described with a Psalm 102 passage about Yahweh laying the foundation of the earth, and argues this puts Jesus in the category of Yahweh rather than creation. They go back and forth over Romans 11:36 and the Greek preposition “ek,” with Sam pointing to Matthew 1:18 and 20, where Mary conceives “ek” the Holy Spirit, to show the word can be causal and doesn’t have to mean something physically came out of God. The exchange ends on Hebrews 7:3 and Melchizedek, with Sam arguing that Hebrews points to the Son as the one with no beginning and an indestructible life.
