Sam Shamoun talks with a Christian woman who's new to Catholicism after being raised non-denominational, and who's had a hard time understanding why Catholics pray the rosary and honor Mary and the saints, wondering if it's idolatry the way her old church always taught her. As she talks it through, she ends up refuting the objection herself, realizing that when she watches her boyfriend Joey pray the rosary, it all points back to Jesus rather than away from him, and Sam presses her to see that she's already answered her own question. He digs deeper and uncovers that her real struggle isn't theological but emotional, tied to lingering psychological wounds from a controlling, cult-like church she grew up in, and he gently but firmly challenges her on why she still feels obligated to justify herself to people who mistreated her. Sam then walks her through why honoring Mary and the saints is never a distraction from Christ but flows directly from him, since no one would think of Mary at all if Jesus hadn't chosen her to be his mother, comparing it to how he references figures like Athanasius or Augustine only because of Christ, and explains that asking glorified saints in heaven to pray for us is no different than asking fellow believers on earth to intercede, except their love and prayers are no longer tainted by sin.
