Sam Shamoun coaches a young Catholic caller through a set of Calvinist objections he'd run into online regarding Judas, starting with the argument that if Judas's betrayal was prophesied, he couldn't have freely chosen otherwise. Sam breaks it down simply, explaining that God would never have prophesied Judas specifically unless he already knew with certainty that Judas would follow through, so the prophecy and Judas's free choice aren't in conflict. He then walks through the Luke 10 passage about the 70 disciples returning with joy, showing that even if the 12 apostles technically weren't counted among the 70, they were still present with Jesus in that moment and included in his words, meaning Judas is still addressed even by that count, especially since Luke 9 already shows Jesus giving the 12, Judas included, authority over demons and disease. Sam also tackles the Balaam objection some had raised to argue that working miracles doesn't require real faith, correcting the record by showing Balaam did believe in Yahweh but fell into idolatry, and then strengthens the caller's original argument by pointing him to Matthew 19:28, where Jesus promises Judas one of the twelve thrones in the coming renewal, showing Judas's name truly was written in heaven before he was later blotted out for his lawlessness.
