Currently Playing: Sam Shamoun Talks About The Rise Of Islam And What It Means For Christians

Sam Shamoun sits down with host Devory Darkins to unpack the perceived rise of Islam in America, explaining that just like Christianity, Islam isn't monolithic and breaks down into major branches like Sunni and Shia, along with fringe heretical groups like the Nation of Islam under Louis Farrakhan, which mainstream Muslims themselves reject as blasphemy. He clarifies that while most self-identified Muslims in America are cultural Muslims who don't strictly practice their faith, the true goal of a scholar-level Sunni cleric who genuinely knows Islamic sources is to see the entire world eventually come under Islamic rule, since Muhammad's final orders were to expand the faith militarily until it reached the ends of the earth. When Devory pushes back by asking whether Christianity ultimately wants the same global influence, Sam reframes the real issue as a clash of worldviews, explaining that unlike Islam, the New Testament never instructs Christians to legislate society once in power, since the church under Christ existed entirely under Roman rule with no political control. He walks through how the Old Testament theocracy functioned differently, with God's undeniable, visible presence justifying severe consequences for rebellion, but shows how things became far more complicated in medieval Europe when Christians who were in power began executing fellow Christians deemed heretics, not pagans, simply for holding different theological views of the same God.
