Currently Playing: Sam Shamoun Surprises Former Mafia Boss What Quran Actually Teaches About Jesus

Sam Shamoun shares his personal testimony with former mafia boss Michael Franzese, describing how he read the Quran cover to cover as a young man raised without any real exposure to Islam, and how flabbergasted he was to find Jesus and the Old Testament prophets mentioned throughout it, which initially convinced him Muhammad must have been a real prophet. He explains how returning to the Gospels reignited his love for Jesus, and how he wrestled for two years trying to reconcile Muhammad's apparent sincerity with the New Testament's claims about Christ, eventually resolving the tension through 2 Corinthians 11:14 and Galatians 1:8-9, concluding that Muhammad likely encountered a demonic spirit disguised as an angel of light rather than a genuine divine revelation. He points to the details in Muhammad's own Islamic sources, particularly his terrified reaction in the cave of Hira where he feared he was demon possessed and repeatedly wanted to kill himself, as evidence too troubling to have been fabricated and inconsistent with how the prophets of the Bible responded to genuine divine encounters. Sam then breaks down why claiming Jesus was merely a prophet falls apart historically, since the only real sources on Jesus are the Gospels themselves, and any claim from Muhammad six centuries later in a completely different language and culture holds no historical weight next to the earliest first century sources. He closes by defending the Gospels' apparent differences as consistent with accepted Greco-Roman biographical standards of summarizing and rearranging material, not contradictions, pointing to scholar Michael Licona's work on the topic.
