Sam Shamoun plays a clip from Dr. Mike Licona breaking down the scientific evidence surrounding the Shroud of Turin, and walks through how the 1978 STURP investigation found the image couldn't be explained as a painting or forgery using any technology available at the time. He highlights specific details researchers found compelling, like the absence of visible thumbs in the hand position consistent with nail placement through the wrist, pollen matching the crown of thorns plant found only around Jerusalem, and dirt on the feet consistent with the region's tombs, all details a medieval forger would have had no way to replicate. Sam then goes deep into the controversy around the 1988 carbon-14 dating that dated the shroud to the medieval period, explaining that the atheist physicist who invented carbon dating himself criticized the test for using only three samples instead of the recommended seven, and that the three samples tested didn't even fall within the same margin of error as each other. He brings up Barry Schwartz, a Jewish agnostic photographer who worked on the shroud research team and personally believed it was likely authentic despite never becoming a Christian himself. Sam closes by tying the shroud evidence into a broader case for the resurrection, mentioning medically verified near-death experiences and Muslims reporting dreams and visions of Jesus as additional evidence pointing toward the truth of Christianity.
